2 Chronicles 10 — Why Did Judah and Israel Fight?

What God intended to be one kingdom became two kingdoms in conflict — because of disobedience, pride and wrong choices.

After Solomon, his son Rehoboam refused the people's plea for relief and listened to his young friends instead of the wise elders. Ten tribes broke away as the Kingdom of Israel, while Judah and Benjamin remained as the Kingdom of Judah.

What We Learn

• Pride divides — Rehoboam's pride and refusal to serve the people fractured the nation.
• There was a divine cause too — God had already spoken judgment over Solomon's idolatry (1 Kings 11).
• Alliances of fear fail — Later, Asa relied on a foreign king instead of the Lord, and was rebuked by the prophet Hanani (2 Chronicles 16).
• Seeking God brings peace — When Jehoshaphat sought the Lord, the fear of the Lord fell on the surrounding kingdoms (2 Chronicles 17).
