Genesis 5:2 — God's Vision: One Humanity, One Identity
Adam and Christ are both heads of an entire humanity: the first producing a fallen race, the last producing a redeemed one. Scripture's story was never about isolated individuals; it is about God restoring one united humanity under a new Head.

1. Adam Is a Picture of Christ
Paul compares Adam with Christ because both are heads of an entire humanity.
- First Adam — produced a fallen race. One name. Many people.
- Last Adam (Christ) — produces a redeemed race. One Christ. Many believers.
2. The Enemy’s First Attack Was Against This Shared Identity
Immediately after the fall, unity fractures. Instead of “their name Adam,” there was blame, accusation, domination, separation, and shame.
Sin divided what God had united.
3. God Never Intended Humanity to Be Understood Primarily as Isolated Individuals
Western culture often begins with “me.” Scripture begins with “us.” Before there was my calling, my ministry, my destiny, there was one humanity bearing God’s image together.
God’s first concern was not individual greatness but a people who reflected Him collectively.
4. One Final Connection That Amazes Me
When God says, “their name Adam,” and later Paul says believers are “in Christ,” there is a striking parallel.
- In Genesis — one name to a united humanity.
- In the New Testament — one identity to all who belong to Christ.
The first humanity was gathered under one representative — Adam. The new humanity is gathered under one representative — Christ.
One Humanity. One Identity. One Redeemer. Jesus Christ.
